The Chorus Uniform

Purpose

This page describes the uniform the chorus wears, with the current uniform at the top and similar listings of previous Oak City Sound uniforms following, for historical (hysterical?) purposes.

Starting January 1, 2026

The uniform consists of a chorus member's OWN clothing, adhering to fairly loose standards regarding color and appearance. 
ALL CLOTHING CHOICES MUST BE APPROVED BY THE UNIFORM COMMITTEE!
Another way of putting this is, if someone is wearing something to a sing-out that the uniform committee does not approve of, that person will NOT be allowed to sing.  Just like contest songs, get approval BEFOREHAND!
 

General Appearance

Due to shirt selections for the previous two uniforms becoming discontinued, we are opting for a "Black and White" color scheme, with the range of style running from "Business-casual" to just short of "Cocktail / Formal Wear". At some point, we will probably add some sort of color-pop itmes, but only once we figure out what that is!

ALL of the following bullet points implicitly include the phrase "of appropriate style", meaning, "approved by the uniform committe".

For men:
  • Black shoes (unless health reasons dictate otherwise)
  • Black (or white?) dress pants / slacks
  • Black or white (or mixed!) shirt - polo, dress, turtle-neck, sweater, etc.
  • Ties of black / white / mixed pattern (no color other than the grayscale-esque)
  • Optional sport coat / suit coat
For women:
  • Black shoes (unless health reasons dictate otherwise) - pumps, open-toe, high-heel, sandals, etc.
  • Black (or white?) dress pants / slacks / jump-suit / skirts / skorts / shorts / etc.
  • Black or white (or mixed!) tops
  • Black or white (or mixed!) dresses
  • Black (or white?) tights
  • Non-color scarves / accessories
  • Coats, as fitting the outfit

History of the Oak City Sound Uniform

The Original Oak City Sound Uniform (Spring 2019)

The first uniform of Oak City Sound, coinciding with the chorus rebrand to "get younger" and hopefully become more accessible to younger singers, was a fairly contemporary look, not seen in many (any?) BHS choruses:

Below the waist:
  • Light brown / tan shoes
  • A particular style and color of Wrangler jeans, though any of three "fits"
  • Light brown / tan belt, hopefully closely matching the shoes
Above the waist:
  • A particular blue-and-white, medium-gingham shirt
  • An optional Black Sport coat for men


The shirt became discontinued in 2022/2023 or so, contributing greatly to the need to develop a new uniform, with a majority of the board voting for a more traditional/BHS-standard "black-bottom, colored shirt" look, with our own spin being the Maui-blue shirt, described below.

The Second Oak City Sound Uniform (from about 2023?)

The second uniform the chorus wore was pretty simple:

  • Black shoes (unless health reasons dictate otherwise)
  • Black dress pants
  • Maui-blue chorus shirt 
  • Optional black sport coat (as dictated by the performance)


As mentioned above, this shirt also became discontinued, in 2023 or so, contributing greatly to the need to develop a new uniform again, with a majority of the board voting for another fairly BHS-standard "black-and-white-all-over" look, as described at the top of the page.
