1. High Notes

  • Aug 26: Great concert performed at  Cary Lazy Daze Town Festival. We made many contacts for potential ticket sales  for the Christmas Concert on Dec 5 at Cary Arts Center.
  • Aug 28: Great Guest Night and practice!
    • Unfortunately, as of 5pm Monday, I had only 1 name of a possible visitor, (and unconfirmed at that) so I concluded that we were probably not going to have any visitors.
    • It was a pleasant surprise to see 5 visitors! Many thanks to Carol for having a guest program ready to go just in case! Many thanks to Warren Fuson who invited 4 of the 5 visitors. He invited them in the context of their attending an OCS concert or were encountered at a music concert out in public. We all need to be doing the same!
    • Good Afterglow at Abbey Rd Grill, attended by one of our guests Robert McSwain.
    • All guests have been followed up with!
  • Sept 4 (Monday) : Labor Day. No Meeting. See you on Sept 11!
  • Football Concessions: Tim Kinsey has sent emails to all who have volunteered with the details on how to register, etc.
  • Sept 9 (Saturday): NC State Football Game Concession Stand. Call time is 9:30am, Game time is Noon.
  • Sept 11 (Monday): Regular meeting at our regular location (Searstone Retirement Community) at our regular time (7pm to 9:30pm).
    • We will run through the Springmoor song set (see below).
    • If there is time, we will also rehearse the following on 9/11:
      • Do You Hear What I Hear?
      • Please Come Home for Christmas
      • We Need a Little Christmas
  • Sept 16 (Saturday): NC State Football Game concession. Call time is 11:30am, game time is 2:00pm.
  • Sept 18 (Monday): Oak City Sound in Concert at Springmoor.
    • Call time is 6:15pm in the Chapel.
    • Performance Set List:
      • Almost Like Being in Love
      • You've Got a Friend in Me
      • Desperado
      • The Longest Time
      • Quartet Slot 1: Music Team is soliciting a volunteer quartet. Why don't you step up?
      • Honesty
      • Ride the Chariot
      • Two Less Lonely People
      • Yesterday
      • Here Comes the Sun
      • Quartet Slot 2: Volunteer!
      • Over the Rainbow
      • Sweet Caroline
      • Bare Necessities
    • Uniform: New Maui Bleu (you know, like uhh French?) shirt, chorus blue jeans, brown belt, brown shoes.
  • Second Appeal: We need members willing to serve on our Christmas Show committee.  Mike Muha shouldn’t be tasked with all the work.  Can you design a poster?  Arrange for ticket takers?  Put together creative stuff?  Help promote or sell tickets?  There is much to be done, and many hands make light work.  This is our show.  Let’s support Mike.  Tell him you will help.
  • Second Appeal: We are beginning to look for 2024 board members.  If you have any interest contact any chapter board members, or the Nomination Committee (Bob Inskeep and Nic Cols).  Being a part of the Leadserhip Team is a duty that needs to be shared amongst all members. Again, many hands make light work. Marketing VP position is open.
  • REMINDER: Music Team needs your Christmas Stories -- NOW.

2. Carol's Korner

  • I think we all realized on Monday that there is still work to be done on Honesty. I REALLY want to include that at Springmoor, so we ALL need to spend some time on practicing this before we rehearse on September 11.
  • I don't think it was said enough on Monday night, but we presented a really good show at Cary Lazy Daze! Great work, everyone!!

5. Champagne Room
  • Our brother-in-song, Kenny Bland passed away last Friday. I've been singing with OKB in 3 different groups (General Assembly/OCS, Masters Men, and around 25 consecutive North Carolina Harmony Brigades) for a few decades and he will be sorely missed in all 3 groups. There are no words to properly describe the joy he's brought to so many people through his singing and support. OKB led a barbershop life, well-lived: He joined SPEBSQSA in 1954. He was the chief founding member of the Wooster Ohio barbershop chapter in the 1970s, and directed them for several years. He was a charter member of the NC Harmony Brigade in 1993, never missing a single rally. He sang baritone in numerous chapter quartets. Prayers for Ken's family are greatly appreciated. Young Ken Bland will communicate to us arrangements for a Celebration of Life event that is being planned.
