1. High Notes

  • Aug 7:  Great meeting and practice!
    • No Afterglow! Ouch! The storm had knocked out power at Abbey Road Grill, where we usually hold court and pontificate on all things barbershop.
  • Aug 14 (Monday): Regular meeting at our regular time at our regular location: Searstone Retirement Community at 7pm. We will rehearse the following:
    • Honesty
    • Ride the Chariot
    • The Lion Sleeps Tonight
    • Two Less Lonely People
    • Desperado
    • Yesterday
    • Bare Necessities
    • Christmas Through Your Eyes
  • Aug 28 - Next Oak City Sound guest night, at our regular Monday evening rehearsal time and place. Invite 2 guys right away. And let's focus on tenors!
  • REMINDER: Music Team needs your Christmas Stories -- NOW.

2. Carol's Korner

  • Stay ahead of the learning and memorization schedule. You don't want to be chasing it into a busy fall.
  • Reminders of the tips and tricks mentioned on Monday:
    • Always maintain a tall space in the back of our jaw and always keep the tip of the tongue resting on the back of the bottom teeth.
    • While maintaining that tall space in the back of the oral cavity, "dial" the sound forward to keep it bright and ringing without pushing from the throat.
    • Warm up by singing through a straw in your mouth, on top of your tongue, held in place by your rounded lips. Pay attention to how your abdominal muscles do the work when you sing that way.
    • Use your consonant sounds to sing expressively. This does not add more time to the consonants, it makes them precise and crisp.

3. Future Notes

  • Aug 26, 11:00-11:30AM:  Cary Lazy Daze Town Festival. Oak City Sound will be performing on the main stage, as we've done for a few years running. Song list:

    • You've Got a Friend in Me
    • Yesterday

    • Two Less Lonely People in the World
    • Almost Like Being in Love

  • Congratulations to 7th Dimension quartet and Impromptu quartet, and Sean Li, for their attendance at last weekend's Lakeside Harmony Weekend. Their reaction? Here they are:
    • We had amazing coaching and classes, and a great time hanging out with friends from the Carolinas District and Dixie District.
    • We had gold-medal quartet guys as our coaches. Great advice that works!
    • Very good accommodations in the dorms at Clemson.
    • Excellent program developed by the LHW Planning Committee.
