0. Updates May 20

  • Next Monday is May 23, not June 23!

1. Notes for this week

  • Unfortunately because of bad weather, Saturday May 14's National Anthem singout at Boshamer Stadium was postponed beyond our time window and we ended up going home without performing. Oh well. Thanks to all who showed up.
  • Last Monday's special Guest Night was a success: 5 singing guests and one spouse. Thanks to all who invited their church choir friends, even if they did not show up.
  • Next Monday May 23. We will be meeting as usual at Searstone at 7pm.
  • We will not meet on Memorial Day, May 30.
  • Have you noticed that attendance at the Afterglow is near 50% of the attendees? It's a great time., so why don't you come and make it 57%?

2. Carol's Korner

  • Song List for next Monday, May 23: Click on Events Page for Monday's repertoire. Practice on your own at home.
  • Prayer of the Children has been added to our current show repertoire. We will be working on it regularly
  • The Christmas repertoire has been loaded on to our website. Start working on them for the holiday season!
  • Keep working on creating legato lines by singing into and through the open vowels and making the end of each syllable the beginning of the next syllable. As you get used to this concept, it will make a HUGE difference!

3. Future Notes

  • No change from last week.
  • Due to the construction at the front door at Searstone starting on June 6, parking at the front of the building will no longer be allowed. All must park at Lorraine Park area.
  • We will not meet on Memorial Day, May 30.

4. Long Range

  • No change from last week.
  • July 25 at 7pm: Oak City Sound in concert at Searstone, Remember that Searstone provides our rehearsal space FOR FREE, in exchange for a concert here and there. Monday July 25 2022 at 7pm is one of those concert dates where we "earn our keep". It's an earlier than usual show-up time! There is a uniform requirement. See Events Page for details.
  • October / November: It looks like the NSC District will hold their Fall Festival in Raleigh this year. Target date range is between mid-October and November 12, 2022. HCA/HOC Choruses in Durham are the hosting chapter. with Jason Kekas as the Convention Planner and Chairman.. Let Nic know if you are available to help as well. We are trying to make sure that the convention is NOT held on a Saturday when there is an NCSU home football game where we will be manning the concession stand.
  • Christmas Show:  Yes, you heard that right! We will be singing some Christmas Carols again this year.  No details yet but lots of discussion about where and when.  Maybe a formal concert? Perhaps we schedule some senior living places in December and perform at their places.  If they can't come to us, we will come to them! Just to put some context about it: we had 14 singers at our singouts in North Hills Shopping Center, while at the same time we were having only 10 or 11 at practice sessions! Everyone likes singouts in the public setting. Note that we will make every effort possible to schedule these for Monday evenings. We know your time during the Holiday season is precious, so to ask for another night is difficult. We hope you can keep your Monday evenings reserved for Oak City Sound throughout that season.
