1. Notes for this week

  • Saturday April 30: Oak City Sound performed at the Cary Spring Daze. It was a good concert, and well-liked by the audience. We were fortunate to have three members (Michael Field new member Sean Li, and new Director Carol Stephenson) perform with us in concert for their first time. Congratulations to all! Oak City Sound is BACK!
  • May 9: Next Monday's meeting we'll be back at our usual Searstone location. Show up at 6:50 and the meeting starts at 7:00. Note that because of construction now beginning at the main front door of the building, parking in front of the main entrance will no longer be permitted. We must all park over at the Lorraine area.

2. Carol's Korner

  • Due to the construction at the front door at Searstone during May and June,  we are pushing back our show for them to July 25.
  • Since we have more time, and the song is so appropriate right now, we are going to add "Prayer of the Children"  to our current show repertoire. We will start working on that next week if everyone can dust it off and put some work into it before Monday.
  • Christmas repertoire will start to be loaded on our website in the coming days as well, so keep an eye out for what you can start working on for the holiday season!
  • Keep working on creating legato lines by singing into and through the open vowels and making the end of each syllable the beginning of the next syllable. As you get used to this concept, it will make a HUGE difference!

3. Future Notes

  • May 14, 2pm or so: Sing National Anthem at a UNC Baseball game n Chapel Hill. See Events Page.
  • May 16 is a special Guest Night for church choir people. It will be held at our usual meeting location at Searstone
    • Spouses are also invited.
    • All visitors be vaccinated against you-know-what!
    • Please send me the names of your invited guests (including spouses) ahead of time so that we can have name badges prepared.
    • Please send me the email addresses of your invited guests.

4. Long Range

  • July 25 at 7pm: Oak City Sound in concert at Searstone, Remember that Searstone provides our rehearsal space FOR FREE, in exchange for a concert here and there. Monday July 25 2022 at 7pm is one of those concert dates where we "earn our keep". It's an earlier than usual show-up time! There is a uniform requirement. See Events Page for details.
  • October / November: It looks like the NSC District will hold their Fall Festival in Raleigh this year. Target date range is between mid-October and November 12, 2022. HCA/HOC Choruses in Durham are the hosting chapter. with Jason Kekas as the Convention Planner and Chairman. I (Nic Cols) am volunteering to help wherever possible. Let Nic know if you are available to help as well. We are trying to make sure that the convention is NOT held on a Saturday when there is an NCSU home football game where we will be manning the concession stand.
  • Christmas Show:  Yes, you heard that right! We will be singing some Christmas Carols again this year.  No details yet but lots of discussion about where and when.  Maybe a formal concert? Perhaps we schedule some senior living places in December and perform at their places.  If they can't come to us, we will come to them! Just to put some context about it: we had 14 singers at our singouts in North Hills Shopping Center, while at the same time we were having only 10 or 11 at practice sessions! Everyone likes singouts in the public setting. Note that we will make every effort possible to schedule these for Monday evenings. We know your time during the Holiday season is precious, so to ask for another night is difficult. We hope you can keep your Monday evenings reserved for Oak City Sound throughout that season.
